Gameplay
The game mechanics are inspired by Windjammers, an arcade sports game in which a frisbee is thrown back and forth between two players, with the goal of landing it in one of three goal zones. In the case of Wash It!, it's a laundry ball being thrown that has to be landed in the opponent's laundry basket. Players are able to catch the laundry ball, dash, and throw it back.
Development
The project came about on a whim, when my girlfriend and I wanted to develop a small game together. She does the artwork, and I do the programming. We designed the game idea and concept together. Over several weekends, we sat down on free evenings and worked on the game together. The plan is to develop more 2-player games that always somehow revolve around couples - under the fitting name "A Couple of Games."
During development we had a lot of fun brainstorming the graphics and game mechanics. All the sounds were also recorded by ourselves. The walking sounds, for instance, are fingertips tapping on a wooden table, and the sound of the laundry ball dropping is a wet towel being flung onto the floor.
In general, we only worked on the project when it was actually enjoyable to do so. That's why, in the end, we can say the project was a thoroughly positive experience from start to finish - it was fun, and it ultimately resulted in a fun little mini-game.
